Friday Flashback - Last Christmas

Last Christmas was our first with the cats. I know that not everyone understands it, but for my hubby and I Darcy and Sookie are our children and the best thing on Christmas day was of course giving them their present! We had found a toy called 'Panic Mouse', which is battery powered - you turn it on by twisting the mouse's nose and the fishing rod starts flicking about randomly. We wrapped it up and let them sniff it and do the usual 'head rub and chew' investigation, before opening and setting it up for them.

As you can see Mr Darcy and Sookie fell in love with this toy immediately and set to work trying to catch that fidgety bobble at the end of the stick!

In fact they went properly nutso over this toy and were leaping, rolling, stalking and diving in equal measure!
"Must... catch.. the bobbly thing!!"
"Gah almost had it, swat faster Sookie!!"
"1...2...3..."
"...Swat!"
The above photo is one of my personal favourites of Sookie even though it's not in focus or anything - it just makes me laugh every time I see it!
"Best toy ever!"

...of course by Boxing Day, Mr D and Sookie decided that it was just as fun to simply lie down and watch the toy flick back and forth and made no further effort to actually play with it ever again! Eventually it was relegated to the back of the cupboard. But for one day it was their favourite toy in the world!

We have already sorted out a couple of presents for this year's cat stockings...but you'll just have to wait until Christmas along with Sookie and Darcy to find out what they get! :)

I got a Panic Mouse for my fourth birthday... and I did not think it was anywhere near as much fun as you kitties did! Not even for a day. (If you want to see the post, you can go to my blog to the top box that says "Search this site..." - type in Panic Mouse, and the blog entry comes up - the toy part is near the bottom of the post.)

Ahh. That sounds so familiar. :)
Perhaps after a couple of months out of sight, they might be interested in it again?

Everyone here in the Cat Blogosphere understands fur companions as "children." Fur kids, our mom calls us.

And we, too, get presents. Maybe they'll play with that panic mouse this year, if you give it to them again. LOL.

M gave up buying electronic toys for me cuz after a day or two it isn't fun anymore. I'd much rather have my oomans play with me.

Before I got my dogs I used to think people who got their pets presents were crrrrazy. Now I'm a convert and my monkeys get a stocking each Christmas. Love spoiling them! And you're right -- they are our kids!

ha haa .. how sweet.. and we totally get it... our boys our spoilt rotten. they still love the string and the cut up tights dragged about, best over expensive toys. I guess toys are only as good as loved ones playing at the end of them... Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx

We totally understand about being your children. When mum is on holiday she emails home every day to ask how we are and tells holiday Auntie to give us kisses and hugs. When she says she is going to email her boys, people think she is talking about human children.
They really enjoyed the Panic Mouse. Maybe they will play with it again for another day. It will seem like a new toy again.

Oh I totally understand...my kitties are my children. too! Last year, we put Christmas present in a gift bag and let them open it :-)
I love the photos of Mr Darcy and Sookie playing with the toy! Sookie is super cute in your favorite photo :-) We had similar toy but my kids got bored very quickly too...hahaha. It's important that they enjoyed it even for a short time, right? I'm looking forward to seeing what your kids get for this year's Christmas!

Wow. I hope MY Human is spending this much time planning for my Krissymouse satisfaction. But somehow, I don't think she is. Hmmm.

Mama bought that toy for us a few years ago. She ended up giving it away to a shelter. It sure does look like you two had fun with it even it was just for one day. Can't wait to see what you get this Christmas!

Mama says the same about us being like her kids. You're in good company!

That is one awesome looking toy.

I totally how you and your husband feel, as me and my husband feel the same way. We have decided not too have human children are our dogs and cats are our babies. Every year we have what I call "puppy christmass". The dogs and cats get wrapped presents and we spend the day at home with them. I could never travel and board my pets over the hollidays because I wouldnt want to leave them. I have already hung up the dog and cat stocking for this year and started wrapping the gifts
