A Trip to A&E Courtesy of the Kitty!
Well it wasn't quite the Bank Holiday Monday I'd hoped for... having hoovered and done the ironing, the last job on the list was the monthly trimming of the cat's claws. Usually such a straightforward task - hubby holds them, whilst I quickly clip clip clip. Sookie was done in 2 minutes flat. However, halfway through clipping Darcy's hind claws, (and thus with my face rather close to his feet) something outside made a noise and startled him leading to the most sudden, unexpected panic bunny kick... which landed squarely in my face!
I stumbled backwards saying "I'm okay, I'm okay!" then opened my eyes to find hubby looking on in horror. After checking in the mirror, I realised I hadn't come off quite as lucky as I thought! I was bleeding above and below my eye. Anyone who knows me well will recall that I have a bad habit of fainting at the sight of blood... and down I went!
After a call to NHS Direct (the UK health service) I was advised to go to A&E as there is a risk of infection with animal wounds. Of course before we could leave I insisted on some pictures for my blog (priorities people!). So here they are:
Hi I'm Laura! (aka Kitcaboodles) |
...I'm usually a bit more presentable than this! |
Not quite my usual eyeliner |
Four hours later hubby and I were finally back from A&E, all cleaned up.
4 hours later |
I had some deja vu after Darcy's visit to the vet on Friday... I've now also been prescribed a course of antibiotics and was getting slightly concerned that they were going to make an uncomplimentary comment on my weight too... luckilly I escaped that one!
Darcy says:
I'm so sorry mummy the loud noises scared me... here's my claws I promise I'll be good this time!! |

Chairman Meow's Strict Regime
We took Mr Darcy to the vets on Friday after he took another turn for the worse. The vet checked him over and concluded that he had a temperature of 102 and should be observed. He was given an injection, is on antibiotics for a week and I was instructed that he should fast for a day, then have chicken or white fish for the next two days to see if things sort themselves out.
I'm happy to report that he's been doing a lot better and here in the UK we have a Bank Holiday Monday so I get an extra day with him at home.
BUT...
The vet informs me that I have a FAT PUDDY. Poor Mr Darcy - he was most insulted. We had been under the assumption that he wasn't fat, just floofy, but it appears that we were wrong so things need to change!
With immediate effect Mr Darcy is on a strict, measured diet with NO TREATS and NO GRAZING allowed. Darcy is not happy and had told me this loudly and repeatedly for the last two nights. One unexpected pro though is that he has decided that if he can't eat, he's going to get a cuddle instead. Therefore the last two nights I've woken up to find Darcy sandwiched between us in the bed. Aww.
He's due back to the vets again next week for a follow up, so please keep your fingers and paws crossed for him (on both counts).

Worrying... and bum fluff!!
Well Darcy has had us worried this week. He's been a little quieter than usual, then yesterday morning I realised he hadn't made his usual early morning visit to see me, he wasn't even upstairs.. highly unusual. I eventually found him curled up very quietly in the lounge and he didn't even get up when he saw me.
I found quite a lot of, er, 'mess' in the kitchen too! After a quick clean up and lots of cuddling and soothing from me, I had to go to work and spent the whole day wondering if he was okay and resolving to take him to the vet if he hadn't improved. I arrived home and found him waiting for me at the door - a good sign! Still he needed a proper wash so off to the shower we went. I have a glass cubicle shower and find it easier to wash the cats in there rather than in the bath.
Anyway after this Mr Darcy toddled off sopping wet down the stairs and proceeded to demonstrate some ballet techniques.
Darcey Bussell... er I mean Mr Darcy! |
Eventually hubby and I decided we were going to have to do the unthinkable... bring out the hairdryer. To cut a long story short, poor Mr Darcy ended up being held by hubby whilst swaddled in a towel as I frantically blowdryed and brushed his back legs and tail. I can't even describe how funny the sight was of Mr Darcy bunny kicking his way through it all. After a minute I swear he decided he was enjoying it, and just threw in the odd little kick just so as not to admit defeat!
Finally he escaped and all we saw was the most beautiful fluffy bottom disappearing out the cat flap!!
All better now I promise... please feed me!! |

The football season begins... *yawn*
The English premiere league football season started last weekend. Already husband is hooked. I think a 'kitty league' would be much more fun... as does Sookie who shall now demonstrate some key moves:
Dribbling the ball (Sookie I don't think it's literal!) |
"Hand Ball" |
"Goal Kick" |
Mr Darcy shares my lack of enthusiasm.
Well they don't look edible... |
Is X Factor on tonight? |

Sulking at the top of the stairs during the storm |
Hiding from the thunder (well... trying at least) |
Is it gone yet? |

Floppy Friday - Mr Darcy Fave Position No 4
Oh hi, Mr Darcy here!
Kittymum has probably previously mentioned some of my favourite places to flop and drop... well she forgot some! Good job I'm here to demonstrate...
Can you guess where I am? |
It's one of my favourite spots... |
The doorway of course! |
They can't resist rubbing my belly when they walk past... great plan hey?! |
I suppose I should move, but instead I think I'll just roll over... |
Anyway, time for super kitty to fly, whoosh! ...Have a 'super' weekend everyone!! =^..^= |

When Sookie met Darcy...
Floppycats asked me to share how we originally introduced Sookie to Mr Darcy and if there were any teething problems, so that others could learn from our experience.
OH BOY WERE THERE PROBLEMS! Hiss! Swipe! Growl!

Meet Molly
You may remember Molly, last week's model for Floppy Friday. As promised, here are some more photos sent in by her doting mum Becca...
"Molly is 4 years old this September, my wedding anniversary. She was a wedding gift from a breeder back in my home state of Kentucky. I married my darling delicious husband Bob in 2007 and he became a cat lover out of neccessity when I brought two cats with me!
He and Molly are best buds now! She is so much like your Darcy."

Oi where are you going? |
