Meet Some Friends Monday

Firstly an update on the dreaded Furminator! I really wish I could show you 'before and after' photos of Mr Darcy, but the truth is that he still hates being groomed and does his very best to avoid it... even with the new Furminator. I am perservering and getting about 4 handfuls of fluff out everyday but I think it will be a slow and constant process over winter to keep his coat matt free. On the other hand Sookie loves it, which is ironic because her coat really doesn't need so much upkeep!

And so on to today's post. I was delighted to be contacted by Gayle, who lives with her mum in a small village called Kenmay in Aberdeenshire in Scotland and owns two gorgeous Ragdolls. Better yet, she sent me some photos to share with you all!

So without further ado I introduce to you:

Rosie and Charlie
"Rosie is our little lady..."
"...Charlie thinks he's a big man but he loves his scarf in the winter!"

When Gayle sent me these photos I noticed that Rosie was wearing a leash. I may have mentioned previously that I have tried to train Sookie so that I can take her and Darcy for walks but that she gets very upset every time I put the harness on her, so I asked Gayle if she could share her experience:

Gayle:
"We live on a busy street and unfortunately have lost two cats in the past to the busy road so we decided to buy each of them a leash. It was very entertaining the first time they got their leash on as they collapsed on the ground like a ragdoll does, however, by the third attempt they were sitting by the doorway waiting!

They both walk around the garden quite the thing now and have gotten into a little routine. They go out for a walk in the morning, afternoon and after tea."

...so maybe there is hope for Sookie yet??!!

Rosie observing the birds from a mini wheel barrow...
...and enjoying a stroll
Charlie finds a quiet spot on the cabinet, tired after one of his walks outdoors...

Thanks to Gayle for introducing me to her lovely raggies, I hope you all enjoyed meeting them too!

I had a kitty who LOVED to go out for walks on his leash. He was a very mellow and even-tempered boy. Spitty flew into a foaming-at-the-mouth hysteria when I tried to put a harness on HIM, though, so I don't think he'll be going out for walkies anytime soon, MOL! Those are beautiful cats!

I want so much to bring Cosmo and Ling outside for walks but I always worry they would squirm out of their harness...
That's strange that Mr Darcy doesn't like the Furminator. Most of the cats I groom enjoy it. But 4 handfuls a day is a good start!

They are totally beautiful! ALL of the cats are. Gorgeous.

Mom said she never tried to leash or harness me as I was an indoor and still am..kitty. BUT looking back, that would have been a great ideas.

LOVE the scarf.. too adorable.

harness: I used to leash walk my cats too (too many now, I'd probably end up completely tangled if I tried) and I found if I put the harness on the and left it on them all day they would get over their case of harness paralysis and come to accept it.

Then there was getting over the "standing on grass" paralysis, and the "standing on pavement" paralysis.. The younger ones take to leash walking better then the older ones, and I generally kept food rewards for them to help them get over their stubbornness. Once they realized where they were and what it meant, they enjoyed it.

(I even used to harness walk my rabbit)

Charlie and Rosie are beautiful! I tried leash training on The Baby, with no luck--she's too wiggly and squirms out of every harness I've purchased.

Thanks for introducing us to Charlie and Rosie. They're beautiful. I love Charlie's scarf! I've always thought some cats are harness-go-for-walks cats and some aren't, but maybe you're more persistent than I have ever been. Anyway, these are great pictures of lovely kitties!

p.s. Simba hates to be groomed in any way or fashion and his coat is a lot shorter than Mr. Darcy's.

Rosie and Charlie look wonderful! I could never get our indoor cats to let me put them in a harness so I could take them for a walk.

Have a great holiday!

hello there... we use the furminator.. Bingley can be groomed for quite a while with it. Darcy has to be followed and stroked at points. We want to use them because of the fur ball issue, BUT also because we are cat fur crafting with their fluff (oh yes! - see our blog about that). Gently goes it on the furminator. As for the leash, we rolled limply initially but now we are happy on the leash.. too busy sniffing and strolling (we have them on when we go on holiday). Love Helen, Darcy, Bingley xxx
