Chairman Meow's Strict Regime

We took Mr Darcy to the vets on Friday after he took another turn for the worse. The vet checked him over and concluded that he had a temperature of 102 and should be observed. He was given an injection, is on antibiotics for a week and I was instructed that he should fast for a day, then have chicken or white fish for the next two days to see if things sort themselves out.

I'm happy to report that he's been doing a lot better and here in the UK we have a Bank Holiday Monday so I get an extra day with him at home.

BUT...

The vet informs me that I have a FAT PUDDY. Poor Mr Darcy - he was most insulted. We had been under the assumption that he wasn't fat, just floofy, but it appears that we were wrong so things need to change!

With immediate effect Mr Darcy is on a strict, measured diet with NO TREATS and NO GRAZING allowed. Darcy is not happy and had told me this loudly and repeatedly for the last two nights. One unexpected pro though is that he has decided that if he can't eat, he's going to get a cuddle instead. Therefore the last two nights I've woken up to find Darcy sandwiched between us in the bed. Aww.

He's due back to the vets again next week for a follow up, so please keep your fingers and paws crossed for him (on both counts).

=^..^=

Glad to hear his tummy is feeling better. A week of bland diet (as the vet said) will certainly help. Maybe you could get him to jump and run to help bring down his weight?
Will be purring for Mr Darcy to make a full recovery quickly!

Thanks Whisspy, he does get playtime already but I'm encouraging him to run around a bit more for his toys and using the ones he has to chase. Every little helps I suppose!

Oh no Mr Puddy, he called him a Fat Puddy Tat, not a fat Mr Puddy, you are in sublime shape! Good tip with the bath... maybe we'll do that just before the next visit so the vet can see!

Thanks Kjelle Bus and Cat-From-Sydney... Mr Darcy is most appreciative of your kind words (although he's still licking his wounds somewhat!!) =^..^=

Being on antibiotics often affects appetite so that might help the diet along. Antibiotics can upset tummies and we suggest taking a probiotic with the meds. Sending purrs.

Thanks Cat Wisdom 101, some useful advice there that I didn't know (and the vet didn't mention!). Will stop off at the petstore tomorrow if possible to pick up a probiotic. =^..^=

That vet is Rude and we don't believe Sir Darcy is overweight by one iota. Having said that, when Mommy switched us to grain free wet food we all slimmed down...

I hope the medicines & diet help him out. I also hope he adjusts to the new food schedule quickly!
