The Biggest Loser Kitty Edition - 1st Week Results

Mr Darcy was back at the vets on Friday for his check up. He had completed his round of antibiotics like a champ and finally accepted that he's on a new dry food measured diet with no snacks. More importantly, there had been no more mishaps in the house and Mr Darcy was back to his chatty, chirpy self.

Last week he weighed in at 6.5kgs. This week... 6.3kg. The vet concluded that he pretty much weighed the same, but by a simple maths subtraction I conclude it to be 0.2kg weight loss... and I'll take that as a step in the right direction!

Anyway he took Darcy's temperature and he was still 102 degrees. As such the vet said he needs another round of antibiotics. I did ask whether it could be the stress of the trip to the vets combined with a hot car, but he said best not to take any chances. So it's back on the tablets for Darcy.

Anyway we've been keeping a starving kitty food diary and it goes a little something like this:

OMC!!!! Darcy is NOT fat! It's all fluff. Really, the vet had the nerve to suggest that he hasn't lost any when there was a 200g reduction. That's like 3 cans of noms noms you know.... purrr meow!

I'm sure I never go to see your VET !
Scary !!! I'm 7.1 kg. !!!

But some friends of mine who is a vet technician, she said you don't need to cut down the food ! The new way to lose weight for cat, you just have to eat wet food instead the dry food !

Awwww. Poor Sookie!

I agree with Mr Puddy, though. PLUS lots of play time that involve a lot of running and jumping. :)

Cat-From-Sydney - thank you, I hadn't thought of it like that... 3 cans of nom noms is a lot!!!
Mr Puddy - thank you and your friend for the advice, I'd asked the vet about moving him from dry to wet but he just said 'don't feed him as much'!! Not as helpful as I'd hoped for!
Only problem is Sookie is a fussy puss and won't eat wet food, she likes to make munchy noises late at night...

Hi Whisspy, yes it's been hard work getting Darcy to run and jump, he's more of a 'watcher' usually, but I brought out the secret weapon - dangly string... he's been zipping up and down the stairs like a kitten this weekend (whilst Sookie dances in the background)!!

Lucy would kill me if she knew I was saying this, but good for you to try to get Mr. Darcy to lose some weight. That has been a losing battle (on my end) with Lucy. Now that we have a third kitty, it's even harder. I do agree that canned food can make a big difference but if he won't eat it, then of course it's not an option. Lucy is watcher of toys too. Best of luck!

Lucy the Cat - thank you, it was a bit of a struggle at first but is getting easier now that Darcy has accepted the new diet. He used to scoff Sookie's food as well and she won't eat without him there so I have always found it hard to control the intake between them. Someone gave me some good advice though, I now feed Sookie in a higher spot so Darcy can't reach her bowl (Darcy doesn't really do jumping!) and she can see that he is busy eating so she's happy eating hers! It seems to be making a difference...

It doesn't seem fair to have so much rationing!

Oh dear sorry about the diet, but its a good idea
to keep slim and trim.

Diets are no fun but neither are health complications. As your vet to be more precise regarding amounts. OMC Whisspy and Darcy are gorgeous!

Darcy, next time before you get weighed, take our advice: Poop first. That way you can fool the vet.

Um, don't do it in the car, though...

Darcy does not look overweight to me..just so fluffy :-) It's a good idea to sit and look cute to get food. My boys do the same, and I always give in!

Darcy, we don't think you're overweight ... *we* think it's mostly fluff! And we love your plan about staring and looking adorable to get some more noms. We do the same thing here! :)

Thanks for everyone's kind words, Mr Darcy needs to hear them as I fear he's turning bulimic.. he's been barfing all his kibble.
Think I'm putting him back on the chicken for a bit longer to see if it helps =^..^=

Katnip Lounge - MOL!!!!
